Moth Photography at The American Museum of Natural History

An excellent exhibition of photographs of moth is going on at the Natural History Museum in NYC.

Luna moth, female, Jim des Rivieres

They are gorgeous creatures and the large and detailed photos are pretty spectacular.
It occurred to me that it's no accident that silk comes from the cocoon of a moth.

This is Bombyx Mori, otherwise known as domesticated silkmoth.  The caterpillar of this kind of moth feeds on mulberry leaves, then turns into a white cocoon.  Cocoons are harvested, processed and spun into silk thread, then woven into silk fabric.
